Sarah “Sara” Elizabeth Scarritt, resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico and freelance film and television production professional, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2024, at the age of 69.
Born in Washington, D.C. on February 1, 1955 to a diplomatic family, Sara lived in various places across the globe during her childhood, including Caracas, Mexico City, Chevy Chase, Brussels, Paris, and Brasilia. Her interest in drama blossomed during high school through involvement in community theater productions.
Sara pursued her passion for theater at the University of North Carolina Asheville, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts in 1985. She got her start at Lincoln Center in New York and experienced a career highlight there working as a production stage manager for Waiting for Godot starring Robin Williams and Steve Martin. She subsequently moved to Santa Monica, California, where she immersed herself in the film and television industry.
Throughout her career, Sara contributed her production management talents to numerous acclaimed productions, including Sleepless in Seattle, Walk the Line, House of Sand and Fog, Superbad, Appaloosa, Longmire, Charlie’s Angels, Northern Exposure, and Robocop 3. Throughout her life, Sara remained grounded in her love for nature, animals (especially cats), and her commitment to social causes. After retiring to Santa Fe, Sara found joy in the local arts scene, yoga, and photography.
Sara's lively personality and passion for life left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She is survived by her siblings Gordon, John (Clarice), Tillie (Matthew), and her nieces and nephews Natalie, Hannah (Kieran), Gaby (Chad), Siena (Thurston), and Sam, as well as her grandniece River.
The funeral will be a private event for family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter or to your local Humane Society, honoring Sara's dedication to animal welfare. Sara will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace life's adventures with zest and passion. She will be dearly missed.
