James Monroe Parker IVJuly 31, 1945 – February 23, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of James Monroe Parker IV, who passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Santa Fe, NM, at the age of 79.
Born on July 31, 1945, in Oklahoma City, James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), earning a B.A. in Communications. His passion for storytelling and love of sports led him to a distinguished career as a sports writer and broadcaster. Beyond journalism, James was a fierce advocate for disability rights, serving as the Director of the Governor’s Commission on Disability for the State of New Mexico, where he worked tirelessly to create a more inclusive world. James lived life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for sports, music, reading, and motorcycles.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Ellen Monte; his son, Jonathan Monte-Parker, and wife, Elizabeth; his daughter, Stephanie Webster, and husband, Charles; and his cherished grandchildren, Charlie Webster, Morgan Patterson, and Max Patterson. He also leaves behind his brother, Robert Parker, and wife, Connie; stepsons, James Patterson and husband, Brian, and Matt Patterson and wife, Jessie; nephew, Steven Parker, and wife, Estella, along with their daughters, Tiera and Cecelia, and great nephew Michael Woodard. His dear friend and caregiver, Guy Montoya, was a constant source of support and companionship.
James was preceded in death by his loving parents, Vonda Parker and James Monroe Parker III, and niece, Christi Woodard and her husband Chris Woodard.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In honor of his legacy, the family asks that donations be made to disability rights organizations in his name.
James was a man of integrity, warmth, and resilience. His love for life and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and passions will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Rest in peace, James. You will always be missed.
