Carl was the first-born son of Annie Lee Turner Maples and Carl Thomas Maples.
He was born in Huntville, Texas, and graduated high school from Smiley High in Houston, Texas. After developing his craft of photography, he received a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Carl married in the early-1960s, taking on the challenge of three very young children - Debbie, Kevin and Kara - and welcomed a fourth child, Brent, in 1970.
After years of honing his craft, he established himself as a talented and sought-after commercial photographer. He ran a successful and respected photography business for 32 years. He was one of the first photographers to use digital cameras.
Carl met the love of his life, Beth Barry, in 1988 and married on February 14, 1995. Through Beth, he gained more loving children, Amy Conrad (Rob) and Hank Clawson. After the death of his parents, Carl and Beth moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Carl was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Thomas, his mother, Annie Lee, his father, Carl Thomas and his grandmother, Mary Lee Turner. He is survived by Beth Barry and his children: Debra Hirst (Barry), Kevin Kendrick (Robbin), Kara Valor (Tino), Brent Maples (Gina), Amy Conrad (Rob) and Hank Clawson; his grandchildren: Keith Valor, Jessica Valor, Jared Valor, Rebekah Valor, Olivia Hirst, Chase Maples, Austin Conrad, Cole Conrad, Conner Clawson and Taylor Clawson. The gathering to celebrate Carl's life will be announced at a later date.
